The all important playoff push is upon us. But before I get into the keys for securing a playoff spot, let us review the first half of the fantasy season. Going into the season I said to pump the brakes on Derrick Henry, Jordan Howard, and Calvin Ridley. Henry has proved me wrong so far and has been a pleasant surprise for fantasy owners because of his newfound consistency. Calvin Ridley on the other hand has been very up and down. In the three weeks where he has not found the endzone, he combined for a total of 68 yards. That is not good. However, the other four weeks where he has scored a touchdown, he has averaged 13.6 fantasy points. He has been very touchdown dependent so far because of a lack of consistent targets and yards. However, the departure of Mohammed Sanu will definitely benefit Ridley by opening up more targets and yards.
Yes, Jordan Howard is the RB 19 right now in standard scoring leagues. Don't be fooled by this though. Howard will easily drop out of the top 25 by the end of the season. If you look up in the dictionary the phrase 'Touchdown Dependent Running Back' (I don't think dictionaries work this way but whatever) you will literally see a headshot of Jordan Howard. In the four weeks where he has not scored a Touchdown, he has averaged 4.6 fantasy points. Yes, 4.6. Let's just quickly compare this with the RB 9 on the year, Mr. Fournette. Fournette has averaged 12.7 fantasy points on weeks where he has not scored a Touchdown. Now that's the production you need to remain consistent for an entire season. Also, in week 4 Howard had a monster game on the back of 3 TDs. Now I get it, that game still counts for him but it's an outlier. If you take out that one game, Howard has averaged 6.75 fantasy points per week. Again, not good.
